In 1968, feminists protested the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. They stormed the boardwalk in their crusade for equal rights. Feminists staged the protest outside Boardwalk Hall, which drew national attention that "kicked off" the second wave of feminism. They used Miss America as a symbol for their fight, which encouraged even more change for the Miss America Organization.
