Information Technology literacy is the ability to use technology to develop 21st century content knowledge and skills.

A definition of Media Literacy shared in NMSA's October, 2001 Classroom Connection says, "Media literacy is the ability to access, interpret, analyze, evaluate, and use all forms of media from direct mail pieces to newspaper articles and television advertisements to Internet content. Media literacy includes understanding that because different people interpret messages in different ways, the media often change their message about the same product or issue to fit their intended audience.

Necessary Web Access and Skills

Each student will need to establish an email account if they do not have one. Because we will use many free Google tools a “gmail” account is preferred but already established student emails are acceptable. The email address should clearly indicate the student’s name and anticipated graduation year.

i.e. suzyq_wjps2012@gmail.com

The Personal Learning Space is a student safe and protected communication area for students and educators.

Each student will have an account for which they receive information about via email.

Typing Master:

Students must create a free trial account so that they may practice at home to improve typing accuracy and speed for periodic typing assessments.

Data Backup:
Each student is responsible for backing up data. Lost work must be redone if credit has not been recorded. A removable USB drive is recommended, but many projects may be stored in the students online filing system. Storing a draft of all work on the home computer is recommended.
